WW1 Commemorative Concert Press Release
The Hayfield Branch of the Royal British Legion are organising a Poppy Appeal fundraising concert for the 7th November 2014 at St Matthews Church Hayfield and are very privileged to have secured the services of, the highly acclaimed and award winning Kinder Children’s Choir of the High Peak.
The concert will be directed by Joyce Ellis MBE and the children will be performing a varied repertoire ranging from the old to modern. Here is a taste of some of the songs the children will be singing: In Flanders Fields words by Dr John McCrae, music by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson, Everyone Sang, words by Siegfried Sassoon – music by Andrew Carter. Band of Brothers’, Hymn to the Fallen – John Williams. Keep the home-fires burning,- Ivor Novello. In my Dreams & Wherever you are, (recorded by the Military Wives) – Paul Mealor. It’s a long way to Tipperary- Jack Judge and Harry Williams
The concert will be a high profile event as Derbyshire’s’ Vice-Lord Lieutenant, Colonel John Wilson the High Sheriff Mr David Coleman and RBLs’ County Chairman Mr Bernard Page MBE will be attending alongside Mr Andrew Bingham MP, High Peaks Mayor, Mr Alan Barrow and Mr Peter Easter, Chair of the Parish Council. We will also have representatives from all the uniformed youth services and groups who will be presenting their standards to the Vice Lord- Lieutenant the Queens representative before a short act of remembrance and commemoration.
The concert and evening has only been made possible by the generous sponsorship from High Peak Buses. All the proceeds will go towards the RBL’s Poppy Appeal which helps our armed forces, ex service personnel, their families and dependants.
